REACH Compliance

EC Regulation No. 1907/2006, known as REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals), seeks to protect human health and the environment through the regulation of chemical substances.

Statement of REACH Compliance

QuickLabel, TrojanLabel, and AstroNova asked an independent European consultancy to determine whether we are obligated under REACH to register our printing chemicals (toner, drum, ink cartridges, etc.) and thermal transfer media supplies, in order to import and distribute these products in Europe.

We find that QuickLabel, TrojanLabel, and AstroNova is not obligated under REACH to pre-register any substance used in our printing supplies for the following reasons:

  • QuickLabel, TrojanLabel, and AstroNova printing inks, including inkjet cartridges, toner cartridges and drums, and polyester carriers, are all considered articles and are therefore exempt from REACH. In addition, because all label materials are defined as articles, QuickLabel, TrojanLabel, and AstroNova labels are also exempt from REACH.
  • QuickLabel, TrojanLabel, and AstroNova toner cartridges, image drums, and inkjet cartridges do not contain any of the SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern). Some thermal transfer ribbons may contain SVHCs. In this case, the name of the substance, the concentration, and safety/handling information is available upon request.
  • None of the substances contained in QuickLabel, TrojanLabel, and AstroNova inks and toners currently exceed the one ton per year threshold.
  • The substances that are contained within the cartridges and drums do not need to be pre-registered, even if the import volume exceeds one ton per year.

QuickLabel, TrojanLabel, and AstroNova will continue to monitor the import of our products to Europe. At such time as the volume of an imported chemical substance exceeds one ton per year, QuickLabel, TrojanLabel, and AstroNova will re-evaluate our registration status.
