DoD UID Labels
Make DoD UID Labels for the US Military with QuickLabel® Printers
DoD UID Labeling Is Required!
As of December 31, 2010, all contractors to the US Department of Defense (DoD) are required to apply a UID label to any tangible item they sell to the US military. Therefore, contractors who do not comply may have their product shipments returned or payment withheld.
So, if you are DoD vendor and have a clause in the contract referring to DFARS 252.211-7003 and Item Identification and Valuation, DoD policy requires a UID label on products that:
- Cost $5,000 or more
- Managed by serial number
- Considered “mission-critical”
- Part of a controlled inventory
- Is a material or consumable that requires permanent identification
This UID label requirement is known as MIL-STD-130N. The Item Unique Identification (IUID) label required by this standard is a label or tag with a Unique Item Identifier (UII) encoded in a 2D data matrix barcode as well as human-readable product tracking information. This requirement applies to all finished products sold to the DoD as well as to all “embedded assets” within these products.
The UII on each UID label is scanned, and its information is stored in a central data bank maintained by the DoD called the IUID Registry. The DoD uses the IUID Registry to store and maintain information about all DoD purchased products, including manufacturer name, origin, serial number, price, repair history, and item location for optimal inventory management.
The UID label must remain permanently affixed to the product throughout its lifetime.
QuickLabel QL-30 and QL-60 Monochrome printers can effortlessly make IUID code labels and tags.
In addition to the printer and labeling software necessary to produce UID codes, QuickLabel offers the UID synthetic label and tag materials that will survive abrasion and long-term use throughout the product’s lifetime.
